Sri Lanka Sumithrayo (Best friends) was founded in the capital city of Sri Lanka- Colombo, in 1974 by Joan De Mel. As a branch of Befrienders International, the organization offers a free service to the community through a group of trained volunteers who are engaged in various activities aimed at reducing the suicide rates in the country.

3   Link   Samutthana
Samutthana, is the King’s College London Resource Centre for Trauma, Displacement and Mental Health. Samutthana means “renewal” or “regeneration” in Sanskrit. The project was established with the help of a grant from CAFOD by volunteers from the UK-Sri Lanka Trauma Group, Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London and the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust in the UK. During its first year of existence the Forum for Research and Development, Mangrove Network and Basic Needs were its local partners.
4   Link   ADIC Sri Lanka
ADIC is an organization working in the field of drug demand reduction over last 15 years. During this period we have contributed substantially by introducing innovative and scientific based drug demand reduction strategies in Sri Lanka and to other countries especially in SAARC Region. The successful efforts to create a lasting change in communities by changing behaviors has been recognized by the World health Organization in 1993 by awarding ADIC with the prestigious WHO award, “Tobacco or Health Medal”.

The World Health Organization is the United Nations Specialized agency for health established on 7 April 1948. WHO was the first United Nations agency in Sri Lanka (1952) and over fifty years on, WHO remains a steadfast intergovernmental organization committed to supporting the people of the country to attain the highest level of health through the strengthening of the health system on the principles of equity, fairness and responsiveness with emphasis on the poor and marginalized.
