Mental Health Training Unit

The Health Education Unit of the hospital was re-established as the Mental Health Training Unit in 2006 with the addition of two fully furbished lecture halls including multi-media facilities. The activities of this unit are carried out by a medical officer and two nursing officers of mental health training under direct supervision of the director and the consultant psychiatrists at the hospital.

This unit organizes mental health related lectures, discussions, small group training programmes and workshops for all staff at hospitals island-wide, as well as employees at the institute with the aim of providing better mental health care services to the community. Some of the programs currently running include:

  • Continuous professional development for MOMH and diploma holders in psychiatry
  • Program on management of aggression and violence in wards
  • Training in mental health for staff at field and community level of public health services
